Description
Daniels has specialized for years in the science of the DENSE MEDIA SYSTEM WASHER and is the undisputed leader in this field of coal washing. Over 300 washers are in operation producing millions of tons of clean, coarse grade coal a year. No heavy medium process equals the DENSE MEDIA SYSTEM for separation accuracy or low-cost performance. This makes it possible for even the small operator to compete by providing a consistently high quality product with minimum operating costs. Operation The media is a combination of magnetite and water which creates a liquid suspension that is denser than coal but not as dense as the rock. By adjusting and controlling the specific gravity of the media, a range of separations can be made to better control the grade of the final product. Media densities can range from 1.30 to 1.70 specific gravity. The feed enters the vessel from one side, plunges into the media bath, and is forced to submerge by a submergence baffle to prevent rafting of non-float material. Media enters just below the feed and carries the coal through the separation zone. Any heavy particles settle to the bottom and are removed by the flight conveyor system. Floatable particles that may be trapped in the falling heavy particles are released by the purge media coming through the purge hoppers. Floating particles float to the surface and are carried across the bath to the overflow weir where the flowing media stream exits the bath and flows across drain screens where the media is drained to return to the media sump for pumping back to the washer. Any media adhering to the coal is rinsed with water which flows to a media recovery system. The Daniels Washer became the industry leader by the use of flowing media that is controlled to maintain only the current needed for proper material flow without excess velocities that cause poor separations. Up-current from the purge system prevents stratification of the media into layers of different densities. Through years of experience the Daniels Washer has developed into a well tuned system that works well with minimal monitoring and adjustment. Advantage : • The Daniels upflow design prevents media stratification and buildup of near-gravity material. • Precisely controlled medium density allows for sharp separations based on particle density. • Gentle bath method minimizes creation of fines. • Processes coal from ¼” to 8” particle size (6 to 200 mm) • Simple design allows easy operation and maintenance
